Dr. Qutayba Hamid appointed Associate Director for Recruitment and Career Development

Dr. Vassilios Papadopoulos, Director of The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Center (RI MUHC), is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Qutayba Hamid, Director, Meakins-Christie Laboratories, as Associate Director for Recruitment and Career Development and a member of the Management Committee.

Dr. Hamid will work with senior management of The RI MUHC to set priorities and develop plans for future recruitment. He will also liaise with heads of departments and division heads and with the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs of Medicine, McGill, to assess recruits, including those on tenure track or contract. In addition, Dr. Hamid will be responsible for identifying funding sources for new recruits and securing suitable working environments for them.

In collaboration with members of the Research Council, axis leaders and departmental or division heads, he will develop a mentoring program for new recruits and junior RI MUHC faculty. Other duties include meeting regularly with recruits, reviewing their promotion dossiers prior to submission and assisting fellows and residents to train abroad.

Dharmesh Bhai Patel Dharmesh joins The Research Institute’s IT Division as a programmer. He will help develop new applications and automation of frequent business processes and routines on our new Web platform. Dharmesh holds a Bachelor in Computer Science from The Institute of Technologies, Bangalore (India), and comes to the RI from Wipro Technologies, where he served as a Technical Specialist. Kudos

Dr. Harvey Guyda received the Contribution to Child Health Award 2009 from the Canadian Association of Pediatric Health Centres in recognition of his significant contributions to child and youth health in Canada and internationally over a period of four decades.

Dr. Charles R. Scriver will receive the 2010 Howland Medal, the highest award of the American Pediatric Society, at its Members’ Dinner in May. The award honours those who, by their contribution to pediatrics, have aided in its advancement.
